The Green Bay Packers may have avoided disaster when Rodgers decided to return to the team for the 2022, but things could be coming to a head with Adams.

According to Ian Rapoport, Adams has told the Packers he won't be playing on the franchise tag. Green Bay placed the tag on Adams ahead of the deadline after failing to reach a long-term contract agreement.

Rapoport says the relationship between Adams and the Packers is not in a great place, and the Packers have until 4 p.m. If Adams doesn't reach a long-term deal by July 15, he will have to play on the tag or sit out the season in 2022.

Adams has told friends and teammates that he is upset at the lack of progress.

The five-time Pro Bowler has spent his entire career in Green Bay and has recorded at least 100 catches in three of the last four seasons. His career highs were 123 catches and 1,553 yards.

Adams will not have to report to any team activities until he signs his franchise tender or long-term contract. Even if he doesn't go through with his threat to sit out without a new deal, it's possible he skips out on the training program.

Adams could show up before Week 1 and still be paid the same amount of money without having to go to training camp. When players receive the franchise tag, they take that holdout tack. When the Pittsburgh Steelers used their franchise tag on LeVeon Bell, he sat out the entire season.

It is unlikely that the situation will reach the point of Adams sitting out an entire season, in part because the Packers know not to make Rodgers angry. If Rodgers feels that the Packers are disrespecting his top target, he could walk away from the team.
