The Shenzhen tech hub is suspending operations due to a rise in COVID-19 cases. The city of 17 million has been ordered to close businesses that provide non-essential services after 60 new infections were reported on Sunday.

The world's biggest contract manufacturer of electronics, and the most important supplier to companies such as Apple and SAMSUNG, is located in Taiwan. Shenzhen is located near the border with Hong Kong and is home to many Chinese tech giants. The Shenzhen base is the second largest in the country, according to the report.

China is taking a strict approach to limiting the spread of COVID-19. Since the beginning of the Pandemic, it has reported 4,636 deaths and 115,466 confirmed cases. The most populous city in the country and home to major chipmaker SMIC has instituted new restrictions, including the suspension of buses to other provinces and the requirement of a negative PCR test for anyone attempting to leave or enter the city. There were 64 new cases of COVID-19 reported on Sunday.
