Michael Gallup will be coming back to the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys and Gallup agreed to a five-year deal on Sunday.

The Cowboys are trying to bring Gallup back to the team, even though they traded Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns.

Gallup was an important part of the Cowboys offense. He had 1,950 receiving yards and 11 touchdown in 30 games.

There were indications going into last season that he would be leaving the Cowboys in 2021.

In October, the team's salary-cap situation was going to be something it had to figure out during the off-season, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones.

It was always going to be hard to know what the cap would be until we got through a full season of normal capacities.

The Cowboys were $21.3 million over the cap before the start of the season, with five players having cap hits over $20 million.

It was reported on March 4 that Cooper would likely be released by the Cowboys before the start of the league year on March 16, freeing up $16 million in cap space for the front office.

The team decided to trade him.

The Cowboys had a frustrating season with injuries. He missed seven games because of a calf injury.

During the Cowboys Week 17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Gallup suffered a torn anterior cruciateeum on his 21-yard touchdown catch.

The Cowboys had so many offensive players that Gallup got lost in the shuffle. The Colorado State graduate set career lows in targets and receiving yards.

Gallup should be able to get back on track with the offense he knows very well if his recovery goes according to plan.

The Cowboys look to build on last season's title.
