Tom Brady retired after a short time.
After announcing he would retire in February, the all-time great took to social media and said he would be back for his 23rd season. He said that time would come for him to walk away from the game, but that he was still on the field.
Brady said he will once again play for the Buccaneers and feels like there is unfinished business.
Tom Brady @TomBradyThese past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I’m coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa. Unfinished business LFG pic.twitter.com/U0yhRKVKVm
Brady is coming back and anyone paying attention to the football season can't be surprised.
After all, speculation began almost as soon as he announced he was stepping away, and he didn't do much to stop it when he went on his Let's Go!
Some in league circles already believe he could be back by July, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. Of this year.
Brady will be 45 years old in August, but the reality is that age didn't matter to him at all.
He led the league with 5,316 passing yards and 43 touchdown passes while leading the Buccaneers to the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. They lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round, but it was still a great showing from the best quarterback in history.
Brady was the leader of the team that won the title the previous season.
This is good news for the team just before free agency begins.
They don't have to worry about whether or not they need to sign someone like Jameis Winston or whether or not they need to start a new quarterback with either Kyle Trask or Blaine Gabbert. Since Trask has another year to learn under Brady, the quarterback may become less of a priority in the draft.
The Buccaneers are once again on the short list of realistic challengers. The best quarterback list in the conference is likely to be led by Brady and Rodgers after the Seattle Seahawks traded Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos.
Brady has seven Super Bowl rings, five Super Bowl MVPs, three leagueMVPs, and 15 Pro Bowl nods on his resume. His legacy was already written after 22 brilliant years with the New England Pats and the New York Buccaneers, and nobody could blame him for walking away even after he was excellent this past season.
He still isn't done adding to that legacy.
