In a unique way, the safety announced his return to the Pats on Sunday.

According to a source, the deal is for one year and will pay McCourty $9 million.

With the one-year deal now being added to it, his cap charge will be lower than $9 million in 2022. That is important for the New Englanders, who entered Sunday with $10 million in cap space.

He had his children share the news on his social media accounts.

His son asked where they were going next year.

His daughter Londyn exclaimed.

One of the most durable players in the history of the New England Pats is captained by him the past 11 seasons.

In addition to the regular-season games he has played in, he has also played in 24 playoff games. His 24 playoff starts are tied for fourth most in the history of the league behind Tom Brady, Jerry Rice and Peyton Manning.

Since entering the league as a first-round draft choice in 2010, he has played the most snaps of any safety in the league.

One of only three players in franchise history to record 30 picks in a career, and one of four players in the history of the Pats to have 37 total picks, is one of the players in the history of the team, who is 35 years old in August.

While his on-field contributions are well documented, his communication as the quarterback of the secondary was often cited by the coach as vital, and he has also made a significant impact off the field with social-justice initiatives.

It has been an honor to coach you, not only for what you have meant to our football team, but to see you become a great and inspiring man. You are the ultimate role model.

The other news the Pats made on Sunday was the return of McCourty.

The team is giving a second-round tender to restricted free-agent receiver Jakobi Meyers, according to Drew Rosenhaus. The tender will pay $3.9 million. Last season, he led the team with 83 catches for 866 yards.

The team is not giving a tender to a restricted free agent. Johnson, who played 28% of the offensive snaps last season, is an unrestricted free agent.
