John Travolta has listed his island home for $5 million.

The 1903 Tudor Revival mansion was bought by Travolta and his late wife, Kelly, 31 years ago. They came to the island after his friend, TV star Kirstie Alley, bought a home and wanted everyone to move there, Travolta said in a 1999 Architectural Digest article.

They bought an estate near the village of Dark Harbor. There are 20 bedrooms, 7.5 bathrooms, and a separate guest house in the home at 299 Drexel Lane. The National Register of Historic Places was entered in 1985.

The 10,830 square foot home is being sold along with 48 acres of land and a private dock on Sabbathday Harbor on the island's eastern shore. The land is in some way connected to the Islesboro Islands Trust.

It has wonderful open fields with ocean views, walking paths through the woods down to the shorefront, beach and open ocean access, garden areas, and a majestic approach up a tree covered winding gravel road.

The house was taken off the market in 2021. She sold her home in April 2020 after 30 years on the island.

In mid-coast Maine, islanders and other people used to see the stars and their families. It was a thrill to realize a star was near, but Mainers respected and protected their privacy. Travolta is famous for his roles in Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and more.

A story in the Penobscot Bay Pilot stated that a group of people in Camden were singingJingle Bells to two men in the kitchen of the Camden House of Pizza. When they realized that one of the men was Travolta, they were almost through.

My eyes widen as I see that he is smiling at me. I want to scream like a teenager. Kim Murphy wrote an article about John Travolta.

Tensions did arise between the Travoltas and locals. In the summer of 1999, islanders saw a low-flying jet buzzing the Travolta home. The FAA confirmed that the plane was a large carrier-type jet and that the actor was either a pilot or passenger.

Agatha Cabaniss told the Bangor Daily News that she doesn't want to see a 707 in front of her house again.

In 2009, when Jett Travolta died of a seizure in the Bahamas, islanders were protective of the family. They said the Travoltas were private people who loved their children very much.

The owner of the Island Market, Dave and Shake, did not have anything to say.

The family's two dogs were killed at Bangor International Airport when a service truck hit them on the tarmac.

Travolta and his family continued to visit the island after Kelly died of breast cancer at the age of 57. Travolta and his children came to Islesboro this past Christmas, according to a post on his social media accounts.
