Durant drops 53 points as the Nets defeat the Knicks (2:03)

The Nets beat the Knicks in a close one, with Kevin Durant scoring 53 points. There is a time and a place.

Brooklyn Nets star forward Kevin Durant has been so dominant for so long that he admits he feels at ease on the floor.

It certainly didn't look difficult for the Nets in their win over the Knicks on Sunday, as they got 53 points from KD and 9 assists from him.

You feel at ease knowing that you can affect so many different plays and different areas of the game with my skill set. How can I get the other coaches to think about their game plan?

I feel like I rise the level of everyone out on the floor and that is a good feeling to have.

The Nets, who are 35-33, still have a chance to win the title despite the fact that the status of Irving and Simmons remains unclear because of New York City's vaccine mandate.

During and after the game, Irving was a hot topic. The star point guard was able to enter the arena as a fan for the first time all season. Irving and a small group of friends and family walked out of the visiting team's tunnel and made their way to the court.

It was an odd scene in a season full of different moments for a Nets team that remains hopeful that New York City Mayor Eric Adams will pull back. While talking about the situation after the game, Durant called out Adams several times.

"It's ridiculous, I don't understand it at all." There are a few people in our arena that are unvaxxed. All of that was lifted in our arena. I don't understand it. I don't understand it. It feels like someone is trying to make a statement at this point in time. Everybody out here is looking for attention and I feel like the mayor wants some of it. He better figure it out soon.

It didn't make sense. There are people in this building. Are they afraid of our safety because we have a guy who can come in the building? I don't understand it. We are all confused. Everyone in the world is confused. People didn't understand what was happening early on, but now it looks stupid. Hopefully, Eric, you have to figure this out.

During the game, Irving was shown on the video board and received some applause, but he pointed at his heart and said that he appreciated the gesture. Irving joined the Nets in the locker room at halftime and listened as they prepared for the second half, according to Steve Nash. Nash said he didn't understand why Irving could be on the floor and in the locker room, but couldn't sit on the bench with his teammates.

Nash said that they are used to things like that. We just tried to stay focused and win the game and we know there are quirks to everything but we are locked in on the task at hand.

Irving waited at the far end of the floor to give a hug to his teammate. After hugging and making their way off the floor, the pair launched into each other.

I was at the free throw line when he walked in, and I looked at my teammate, and he was like, "Woah, this is unbelievable." We smiled. Over the last two or three years, we could say that about a lot of situations, especially with COVID being involved. Hopefully it gets figured out.

Eric, you have to figure something out because it is looking crazy. He can come to the game but not play, man. Hey, Eric.
