According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the San Diego Padres are shopping first baseman Eric Hosmer and outfielder Wil Myers.
Hosmer has four years and $60 million remaining on his contract, while Myers has a $20 million club option for 2023 with a $1 million buyout, Feinsand noted.
The Padres want to trade Hosmer. They were unable to find a partner for him at the deadline. He has a no-trade list that includes 10 teams, some of which could be potential suitors, and an opt-out clause after the 2022 campaign.
His production has been mediocre since signing an eight-year, $144 million contract with the Padres. He had 12 home runs and 65 runs scored last season.
In his four seasons in San Diego, Hosmer has slashed.264/.323/.415. His seven-year career with the Kansas City Royals included a Silver Slugger Award, four Gold Gloves and an All-Star selection.
In seven seasons with the Royals, the veteran slashed.284/.342/.439.
Hosmer told USA Today that he doesn't want to leave San Diego because he wants to deliver a title to the city.
"I know it's part of the business, but I don't want to leave. I created a lot of relationships here with a lot of people in this organization and a lot of people at Petco Park. I want to see this thing through and bring a championship here to San Diego.
"That's all I ever wanted."
He was relieved when he found out he would stay with the franchise.
The last seven seasons in San Diego have been spent by Myers, who began his career with the Tampa Bay Rays. His contract is a big reason why he is a trade candidate.
Over his Padres career, the 31-year-old has been similarly inconsistent. He slashed.256/.334/.434 with 17 home runs and 63 runs scored.
San Diego missed out on the playoffs after a disappointing 81-game season in which it finished with a 78-game record. It was the 14th time in the last 15 seasons that the Padres missed the playoffs.
