The biography of Hsieh was excerpted in the Wall Street Journal. It was covered in dog feces and wax from hundreds of candles left around the house, as sinks and showers ran continuously, when she arrived, according to the report.

The singer found Hsieh in the backyard, starving, and sitting in a chair in his underwear, surrounded by canisters of nitrous oxide, which he had been openly abusing at the time. According to the Journal, he presented her with a box where he had written a series of unintelligible numbers that he said were the formula for world peace.

Hsieh stopped sleeping and claimed that he hadhacked the ability to need it, according to Jewel, who had previously worked with Hsieh to develop a mental health program for Zappos employees. She spoke with Hsieh's staff and head of security, who claimed that he had been ordered to leave the tech executive's home.

According to the biography, Jewel told the security officer that if he killed himself and everyone else in there from a huge fire, he couldn't say he wasn't warned.

According to a December 2020 Forbes report, Jewel sent Hsieh a letter via FedEx shortly after leaving Park City that August.

She wrote a letter that was reviewed by Forbes. I think you are taking too many drugs that cause you to disassociate.

The people you are surrounding yourself with are either ignorant or willing to be involved in you killing yourself.

Hsieh died a few months later from injuries he sustained in a house fire in Connecticut in November 2020, after he was either trapped or barricaded in the basement. His death was ruled an accident, but the details around it are still being investigated.
