Baker Mayfield will be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in 2022.

It is a little more unclear.

The Browns have been talking about potential upgrades to their struggling starting quarterback.

He dealt with a combination of injuries and under performance in his last campaign. He wore a harness on his left shoulder for much of the season and threw for 3,010 yards and 17 touchdown. The shoulder injury required surgery after he was shut down for the season.

His career has been a mix of good and bad. He looked like a star in the second half of his first season, but then he faded in the second half of his second season, and then fell off a cliff last season.

Fans of the Cleveland team watched as Beckham Jr. asked to leave and got his wish, and then won a Super Bowl with Matthew Stafford feeding him a lot of targets. At the center of Beckham's anger? The inability to consistently get him the ball when open was the reason for it.

The acquisition of Amari Cooper from the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday was supposed to help the wideout depth chart, but it is not known if it will actually lead to a spot in the league.

Cleveland could find itself in a trade for Deshaun, Kirk, or Jimmy Garoppolo. The three players have a lot of question marks. 22 women have accused him of sexual assault, and he is still facing a civil lawsuit. A long-term contract extension for Cousins is due to expire in 2023. Replacing Garoppolo would be like shuffling deck chairs.

The best bet may be to run it back and hope for the best. The team could wipe its hands clean without having to take a cap hit.
