Russia installed a new mayor in the Ukrainian city of Melitopol after soldiers kidnapped the city's elected mayor.
According to CNN, the acting mayor was introduced on local TV by the new mayor.
In a televised statement posted to Telegram, Danilchenkso said her main task was to get the city back to normal. She said there are people in Melitopol who are trying to disrupt the situation and cause a reaction of bad behavior.
I appeal to the deputies, elected by the people, to keep their wits about them, and not to give in to these provocations. Since you were elected by the people, you have a duty to care for your citizens.
The southeastern region of Ukraine is called Melitopol.
The mayor of Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov, was kidnapped by Russian forces on Friday. A group of armed soldiers walked him away with a plastic bag over his head.
Fedorov was installed in place by Russian force after being elected by the people of the city.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Fedorov was a war crime because he was taken hostage during the war.
The ministry called on the international community to respond immediately to the abduction of Ivan Fedorov and other civilians, and to increase pressure on Russia to end its barbaric war against the Ukrainian people.
The United Kingdom dismissed Russia's claim that it had captured Melitopol.
Russia said its troops were welcomed into the city. Russian troops were held up by Ukrainian resistance, according to the British armed forces minister.
