Anthony Davis is progressing in his rehabilitation from a foot injury that has kept him out of the lineup since February, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
The next step in the process is to get Davis back on the court for shooting. The team thinks he could return before the playoffs begin.
Davis has not played since the Utah Jazz game in which he landed on Rudy Gobert. He was not able to put any weight on his leg and needed to be helped off the court.
Davis was expected to be out at least four weeks with a foot injury.
When healthy, the 29-year-old has been one of the team's best players, averaging 23.1 points, 9.7 rebound and 2.9 assists while shooting 53.7 percent from floor. The Lakers went 2-6 in his absence.
The Lakers have struggled even when Davis is in the lineup. The team is ninth in the Western Conference with a 29-37 record and could miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign.
The Lakers entered the season with high expectations after acquiring Russell Westbrook. The veteran guard had one of the worst seasons of his career, with the move not going as planned.
While shooting 43.0% from the floor and 28.1% from deep, he's averaging 18.1 points, 7.6 rebound and 7.2 assists. The Lakers explored trade options after his lackluster performance.
Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report reported that the Lakers and Russell Westbrook want to find a new home for him during the off-season, so the team could look very different next season.
