The reasons are right in the pitch for Stephen Colbert's Ocean's Eleven-style blockbuster, which was doomed from the start.

The general public doesn't understand non-fungible token chatter. Most of what is out there paints a picture that is either utterly ridiculous or profoundly alarming. In this fake movie trailer that aired on Friday&s Late Show, the perps behind a robbery are derailed from the start because nobody knows anything.

That is the joke. Colbert's writers zeroed in on the superficial popularity of NFTs, and the expository bridges that would have to be built in a theoretical NFT heist flick just to help people understand the premise. The conflict in this pitch is not from committing crimes like Danny Ocean, but from someone questioning the virtues of NFTs as a whole.

If there is a samaritan, it will save you money. There are a lot of pressing issues abroad and at home where the dollars could be more helpful.
