Watch all six goals - including a St Mirren wonder strike - as Hearts edge cup classic

The first team through to the Scottish Cup semi-finals was Hearts, and they want to make some history.

The men eventually prevailed 4-2.

The visitors had been two down when Eamonn Brophy andConnor Ronan hit back with strikes.

We want to win matches and cups.

We want to make history. We have two more games to go.

The Scottish Cup was won by Hearts for the eighth time in 2012 and the last time was in 2020.

The draw for the last four takes place on Monday after the tie between Celtic and Dundee.

  • Reaction & as it happened

John Souttar and Cammy Devlin were not on the roster.

There was a moment of concern for the manager when Craig Halkett had to have a head injury bandaged up. The treatment was also received by Brophy.

The home side took the lead after McKay found the six-yard box. Baningime scored his first Hearts goal when he arrived to apply a firm finish.

Scott Tanser's shot went off a couple of bodies and prompted faint calls for handball, as St. Mirren responded by loading the Hearts box at a throw-in.

The home defence was relieved when Jordan Jones crossed low for Greg Kiltie. Stephen Robinson said there was a foul on Kiltie after he took the shot.

The visitors were undone by a sweeping move as Liam Boyce found Ben Woodburn on the right and his square pass was knocked high into the net by Haring.

Robinson's side responded again and this time they were able to find the net. Richard Tait sent a ball in from the right, and Brophy's foot carried it past Craig Gordon.

Gordon had to look lively at the next attack as the visitors' head connected with a Jones free-kick.

Halkett's overhead kick was blocked, but he still rattled the St Mirren goalkeeper.

'Oh my goodness... that is outstanding'

After the interval, Alnwick was called into action twice in a row, blocking Nathaniel Atkinson's shot and palming over a Woodburn effort.

Gordon was equally astute to get strong hands behind Jones.

The Scotland goalkeeper could only look on in horror as the Irishman lifted his shot into the opposite corner after collecting a cleared corner on the right. A great strike.

Andy Halliday played a one-two with Boyce before drawing a save from Alnwick.

McEneff arrived at the right moment to score the third goal. With the ball going into McEneff's path, he improvised a shot with his thigh by cutting back and getting away from Jones.

Haring headed over a Stephen Kingsley free-kick as Hearts finished strongly, and the result was put beyond doubt when Simms converted a McEneff delivery at the front post.

Man of the match - Peter Haring

What they said

It was a great game and a proper cup tie. I think the second goal was the best one I have seen in my time here.

Really pleased to get through. We probably deserved to win because of the clear cut chances we created.

Stephen Robinson said that they got back to 2-2 with an amazing goal. You have to hold it for 10 minutes to calm the crowd. The basics were not done right for the third goal.

We should have had a penalty. It seems like a stonewall penalty on Greg Kiltie. If you allow four goals, you are not going to win the game. We ran out of steam in the last 15 minutes.

What's next?

Both clubs will host their first home games of the season next Saturday, with Hearts facing Livingston and St Mirren hosting Dundee United.
