For more than 100 years, the wreck of the Endurance was lost to the icy waters of the Weddell Sea.
The New York Times reported this week that the new captain of the ship seems to be a large anemone on the well-preserved deck, but other scientists have also discovered species of marine life that shouldn't be near the wreck. They may have found a new species.
A zoologist at the National University of Ireland Galway told the Times that most of the sea bottom in the area is soft. The ship may be carrying animals that have never been seen before, according to Dr. Louise Allcock.
There is a chance that there are new species, if only because of a lack.
Katrin Linse noticed a white creature on the ship's porthole. She knew it wasn't supposed to be there. The animal Linse thought was a crab was not a crab at all.
The animal in the image is from the official Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust.
The animal is a squat lobster. There is only one type of squat lobster in theAntarctic, and scientists think it came back after a long hiatus. Climate change allowed that lobster to move back into the zone, but scientists who observed it say it is a completely new kind of lobster.
Paula Rodr told the Times that this is a different species.
It's terrible to think about how the crew of Endurance survived the initial crash. We would like to think that the explorer knows his expedition is not over. He is still giving the community new creatures and important questions.
The size of the crew has been updated.
Experts say that the Giant Spiders Falling from the Sky are good.
