The soldier who executed Che Guevara more than 50 years ago died this week at the age of 80.

According to The Guardian, Mario Terán, a member of the military group that captured the revolutionary in 1967, died of a long-term illness and is survived by his two children and his wife.

Gary Prado, the retired general who reportedly led the group, said that Ter was simply obeying his duty as a sergeant in the army.

Terán said he was following orders when he killed Guevara.

He told journalists that it was the worst moment of his life. His eyes were very bright. When he fixed his gaze on me, it made me dizzy.

He told me to aim well and toCalm yourself. You are going to kill a man, then I took a step back and fired.

The Cuban Revolution was led by Guevara. He fought for revolutionary causes in both Africa and South America.
