The Florida Highway Patrol trooper who blocked the speeding driver from reaching a bridge full of pedestrians has been praised for her actions.

The incident made national news with a spot on NBC's Today Show, as well as being thanked by her agency, fellow law enforcement officers and countless community members.

Schuck, who was seriously injured in the crash, will not be forgotten.

At a press conference on Thursday, the FHP veteran reflected on the split-second moment when she used her patrol vehicle to stop the swerving driver.

Since it happened, Schuck has thought about what could have happened.

The driver of the rogue car, a 52 year old woman from the state of Florida, bypassed an interstate closure that was in place for the Sunshine Skyway 10K on Sunday morning.

The charity event attracted thousands of participants to walk and run over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

Watts sped closer to the event as law enforcement officials tried to stop her. FHP later said that there was only one line of defense left between the Skyway and the rogue driver. That was Schuck.

I was the last officer. I knew it was me. Schuck said that if it wasn't me to get her to stop, who?

The sheriff's office records show that Watts is in custody at the jail. She is accused of having a serious bodily injury.
