Big E said on social media that he broke his neck in an accident during the live broadcast of the show.
The former wrestler landed on the top of his head after taking an overhead belly-to-belly suplex from Ridge Holland. It was obvious that something had gone wrong.
A scene that was not shown on television was when Big E was taken to a hospital after being removed from Legacy Arena.
Big E said in a video that he feels fine, but that doctors told him he broke his neck.
It is not known how long he will be out of action, but the possibility of him performing at the event next month is slim.
Big E was wearing a neck brace.
He thanked all of the beautiful people for their concern and messages. I will be all right. I will be good. Don't worry. Go to sleep. Don't worry about old me. Thank you, but for real. I would like to thank all of you.
Big E won the title for the first time in September and held it until January. The Florida-born wrestler, whose real name is Ettore Ewen, is a former WWE Intercontinental champion and multiple-time WWE tag-team champ with The New Day.
Big E is a former University of Iowa football player and powerlifter.
