Daniel took the first set in 28 minutes after the Britons passed up two break points in the third game.
Murray dropped his serve in the first game of the decider after winning the second set.
Murray regrouped, leveled at 3-3 with a brilliant forehand and then broke Daniel at 4-5 to take the match.
He will play Alexander Bublik in the next round.
