Simmons has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Cubs.

The two sides were close to a deal according to Ken Rosenthal. The one-year deal will be worth $4 million, according to Jon Heyman.

Cubs fans who want Carlos Correa don't need to give up hope because Simmons will join the team, according to Rosenthal.

A one-year agreement with Andrelton Simmons - $4M, plus incentives, per @JonHeyman - would not preclude the Cubs from pursuing Carlos Correa, if they choose to move in that direction.

Simmons agreed to a one-year, $10.5 million deal with the Twins.

Minnesota finished last in the division and Simmons had his worst season in baseball.

The four-time Gold Glove winner has been valued more for his defense than his offense. Prior to last season, teams could expect him to get on base at a healthy rate and collect a number of extra-base hits.

The numbers would have been an upgrade over what he actually delivered.

He struck out in almost 15% of his at-bats and had a weighted average of.252. For some perspective, the latter number falls nearly 40 points below the threshold.

Simmons is a plus defender. He was tied for fifth in MLB in outs above average. He set a high standard for himself when he was in his prime, and he would still be elite with the glove when he starts to decline a bit.

Simmons was so bad at the plate that it's reasonable for Chicago to expect a regression to the mean.

Simmons improves the left side of the Cubs infield. If his offensive contributions continue along their current path, they may be faced with a dilemma about using him as an everyday option.

The Cubs needed to add more infield depth regardless of what happened with Correa. Their current depth chart has Hoerner penciled in as the starter, with Alcantara on the bench.

Simmons is best used as a backup defensive player.
