At least two of the academy's cadets, including a football player, were involved in a situation in which six people overdosed on cocaine.
Rescue and emergency officials said two of the six were in critical condition.
A West Point official told The Associated Press that one of the cadets is an Army football player. The football player at the house was not hospitalized. The official was unable to give the player's condition.
No names have been released. The official spoke on condition of anonymity.
The New York academy's public affairs office released a statement Friday afternoon saying it was aware of the situation involving West Point cadets.
No other details are available at this time.
The South Florida Sun Sentinel reported that some victims were West Point cadets.
Steve Gollan, the Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue battalion chief, told the AP on Friday that two critically ill victims were on ventilators. One of the victims was in good condition and the other was stable. Gollan said that after two people collapsed, two other people became ill while trying to give them cardiopulmonary assist. Six people at the home needed treatment. He said the drug was administered.
The home is a vacation home that is often rented out according to neighbors.
Fentanyl is blamed for driving an increase in fatal drug overdoses. It is 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine and can be used to treat severe pain. A person's breathing and heart rate are slowed by it.
Almost all of the 215 suspected overdoses that the department has responded to have been caused by Fentanyl. He didn't know how many died, but he said it was a two-year trend that started when the coronaviruses began.
The sheriff's office is investigating along with the police. The spokesman said there was no further information to be released.
