An individual wanted for hitting an Asian man with a hammer on a Manhattan subway platform has been charged with hate crimes and ordered held on a $300,000 bail on Friday.

Christian Jeffers was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the attack that occurred on the 7th Avenue and West 14th Street station on the 1/2/3 line.

Jeffers and the other person got into an argument after bumping into each other. Jeffers struck the victim's head with a hammer after becoming irate and aggressive.

Jeffers was charged with hate crimes. She was charged with having a weapon.

By the time I get out of prison, I'm going to get a gun and try to kill as many people as I can.

Police sources said that Jeffers had 47 prior arrests. Her rap sheet includes charges of drug possession, prostitution, public lewdness and theft of service.

She was sentenced to nearly six years in prison for a second-degree robbery. She is on supervised release for that case, which is set to end in September.

It is not clear what led to her hate crime charges. The victim told NBC New York that Jeffers bumped into him after harassing someone else.

The victim told the outlet that he was trying to get in his face. He asked Jeffers if he could see him walking here. Do you have eyes? Open your eyes!

The victim was taken to a hospital. He's in recovery now.

Attacks against Asian Americans in New York City have been on the rise. Mayor Eric Adams has announced a subway safety plan and the MTA will test platform barriers by the year 2024.

The creation of a new anti-incarceration division may lead to harsher criminal justice policies because of the fact that Jeffers is a repeat offenders. The office pointed out that incarceration will still be an option for the most serious offenses, particularly for those who commit violent crimes.

The judge set the bail at $300,000. It is not clear if the 48-year-old has hired an attorney.
