According to Jeff Passan, Carlos Rodon has agreed to sign with the San Francisco Giants on a two-year contract worth $44 million.
Rodon was able to test the open market because the White Sox didn't give him a $18.4 million qualifying offer before the MLB Lockout.
Rodon was going to the All-Star Game for the first time. He tied for the team lead with 13 wins and had a 2.37 earned run with 185 strikeouts.
Rodon pitched a no-hitter against the Indians. He lost the bid for a perfect game with one out in the ninth on a hit-by-pitch to Roberto Perez.
Houston advanced to the American League Division Series against the Chicago Cubs after Rodon started the Game 4 loss. Rodon allowed two runs as the White Sox lost 10-1.
Rodon had a history of arm and shoulder injuries after being selected by the White Sox with the third overall pick. Rodon missed the rest of the year after undergoing Tommy John surgery in May of 2019. He made four appearances in 2020. He only pitched 28 in the last two months of the season due to arm fatigue.
Rodon bolsters the starting rotation if he can stay healthy. He will likely get a spot in the top of the rotation, and his performance will be key to the Giants playoff push.
Rodon will be the second starting pitcher to join the National League West champion after they signed Alex Cobb to a two-year, $20 million deal.
