The Chicago Cubs have extended the contract of manager David Ross.

The club has an option on the contract of Ross. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed by the Cubs.

Ross will replace Joe Maddon before the 2020 season. The Cubs missed out on the playoffs but won the National League Central. An 11-game losing streak in June changed the course of the season for the team.

The team traded away star players last season, leading to a second-half collapse. The Cubs finished the season with a 71-91 record, giving Ross a 105-117 record in two seasons.

Ross was praised by the president of baseball operations.

In October, he said that David has done a fantastic job as manager. I think he has excelled even while learning.
