Parents TV Council Says Disney Plus Adding ‘Daredevil’ Will ‘Forever Tarnish’ Its Brand

Daredevil and all the other shows from the Defenders are going to be added to Disney Plus. The Parents TV Council lambasted Disney for including R/MA-rated content on their new streaming platform, which was supposed to be a family-friendly platform.

The Parents TV Council recently issued a statement.

Disney is already at a competitive advantage with a streaming platform that is the safest one out there for families. Its family friendly crown will be ruined by its TV-MA-rated fare.

Disney has beefed up its parental controls, but they think that it will be hard for many families to watch it because of the mature content on the platform. There was a debate about whether Disney would keep all of its content together with this move, or put these more mature shows somewhere else. They chose the latter because it seemed like they were moving in that direction. Kevin Feige said that Moon Knight is supposed to be the same as Daredevil was.

This is a slippery slope in terms of where Disney goes from here.

It seems like Disney Plus is trying to increase subscription revenue by adding TV-MA and R-rated programming. Adding live striptease performances in Fantasyland at Disney World?

Whoa, whoa, whoa that happened quickly. It should be noted that the mature content in these shows is violence, though I do remember a bit of sex in Jessica Jones, though nothing too explicit. There is a lot of violence in the movies and shows that are rated 13 and older, so it's easy to get away with it in this genre. I wonder if we didn't see the US Agent murder a guy with the bloodied edge of Captain America's shield a few months ago.

Will anything come of this? No, I don't think so. The arrival of these shows on Disney Plus is celebrated by most people. Disney wants to compete with places like HBO Max and Netflix at scale, and that means having at least portions of their streaming service that are more adult-focused. There are ways to have a streaming service that has both kids and adult content at the same time, and no one needs to be corrupted because of it. We will see if Disney responds.
