Over the past many decades, scientists have discovered some of the most fascinating, remarkably preserved prehistoric creatures, such as a pair of mummified lioncubs and a microorganism awakened from its deep multi-millennial slumber.

The buried treasures are protected by the permafrost, which keeps them intact for many centuries. It contains nearly everything, including DNA. A mixture of soil, rocks and sand is bound together by ice that stays frozen all year long. The remains had fur, teeth, skin, muscle tissue and organs.

As the climate warms and more and more permafrost thaws, many people have stumbled upon amazing finds.

Here are some of the most interesting discoveries.

Neil Loveless, a gold miner, was water blasting a wall of frozen mud next to a creek outside of Dawson City, Canada, when he hit a layer of thawing permafrost and found the most complete wolf mummy ever found.

Two mummified cave lions were discovered by two local mammoth tusk collectors. Sparta is believed to be the best-preserved Ice Age animal ever found.

Sparta is more than 28,000 years old, while the male nicknamed Boris is more than 44,000 years old.

The 24,000-year-old freshwater microorganism was too small to see with the naked eye, but it was awakened from its slumber.

The tiny microorganism was captured in video as it emerged from its frozen state. There is a soil Cryology Laboratory.

A 42,000-year-old foal was found by other bone hunters in Siberia. The discovery of liquid blood and urine made this rare.

The researchers at North-Eastern Federal University studied the foal. The scientists said that its organs and muscle tissue were beautifully preserved.

The frozen creature was believed to have drowned while being hunted. Scientists said that 80% of the remains were intact.

The carcass of a juvenile woolly rhinoceros was found on the banks of the Tirekhtyakh River in eastern Siberia, Russia, in August 2020. The Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha has a department for the study of mammoth fauna.

Steven Emslie stumbled across the remains of ancient and fresh penguins during a research expedition in the Ross Sea.

The wolf, which was about 2 to 4 years old when it died, was rich in fur, fangs and even tongue.

The bison was found in Alaska in 1979.

The story of the Ice Age death of the Blue Babe bison has been told to scientists at the University of Alaska Museum. The Wikimedia Commons has a lot of information.

Scientists say this is the first and only find of its kind, a whole bear carcass with soft tissue. It was found on a Russian island.

HUGELY EXCITING! A cave bear carcass has been recovered from the permafrost on an Arctic island - "the first and only find of its kind." The preservation is remarkable; all internal organs are present. And that nose! Wonderful 📷 NEFU https://t.co/U6nayPIsIp pic.twitter.com/gzggoCyHmA
