The new lunar rover is designed to hold and transport people and cargo, and is the brainchild of California-based Venturi Astrolab. The Flexible Logistics and Exploration rover is intended for use on the moon and Mars.

Chris Hadfield is the leader of a full-scale prototype of FLEX. A stunning bit of footage showed FLEX moving across the desert terrain in California. A team was testing the mobility of the rover on challenging ground, as well as examining both crewed and telerobotic operations.

Hadfield said it was a joy to drive the new rover.

To have a chance to drive that rover, to see it's potential, it immediately appears in my mind, something that looks a lot like this is going to be helping people out when we start to live on the moon.
