United manager candidates fear a poisoned chalice

According to sources, the end of the season is having a negative impact on the search for a new manager at Manchester United.

The process of appointing their next manager has begun, with contact made through intermediaries to assess the availability of preferred candidates. There are fears that a string of poor results and the risk of missing out on European football, as well as doubts over the futures of senior players and reports of unrest within the squad, is affecting the process.

According to sources, at least one coach in the frame for the job has used his own contacts to gauge the mood in the dressing room and assess how committed key players are to remaining at Old United in an effort to discover how big of a rebuild is required. It has been suggested that short-term success at the club could be defined by the fact that it could take years for United to become realistic challengers in the premier league.

There are a number of candidates that will be considered for the role, but United remain committed to an extensive search that will include a number of candidates. According to sources, the club are hoping to make an announcement before the end of the season to make sure the new man is involved in the recruitment of new players. The recruitment department and the managers at Old Trafford have veto power over signings.

There are doubts over key players at United. Nine first team players have contracts that will end in 2023, including Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, who are out of contract in the summer.

According to sources, Marcus Rashford has reservations about his future at the club, while it's not yet known if he'll stay or not. There is an option of another year for the contract of Rashford, but he is not in a rush to sign it.

He wants to get his place back in the team under interim boss Ralf Rangnick and nail down a regular position after being tried in a number of roles since breaking into the senior squad as a teenager.

Rival clubs swarm Chelsea free agents

According to sources, Rival clubs are increasingly confident they can prise the three players away from the club.

The U.K. government imposed sanctions on Abramovich on Thursday, meaning that he is effectively frozen as one of his assets. The sale of the club is on hold because of the freeze.

What does the sale of Abramovich mean for the club?

According to sources, the U.K. government would consider a license application from Abramovich to allow a sale.

No bids have met the value of the club, and any licence that would allow the sale of the club wouldn't allow Roman Abramovich to benefit from it.

Several players and personnel from the club admitted this week that there were doubts about Christensen staying.

The centre-back has held talks with a number of clubs. Barcelona are hoping to land Azpilicueta, who has attracted interest from Atlante Madrid, as well as the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid.

A special license has been issued by the government to allow season ticket holders to attend home matches. There is hope that all three can be retained for next season and beyond, even if the sale of the club occurs sooner than May 31.

Barcelona were already confident about attracting Azpilicueta before Thursday's announcement and although he was thought to be more likely to stay, his future is more uncertain than ever.

U.S. investors eye LaLiga's Espanyol

A group of American investors led by the owners of the NBA's Magic and the Vikings are interested in buying Espanyol, according to sources.

Sources say Chen is willing to listen to offers for Espanyol, the club he has owned for the past two years. The Wilf family, owners of the Vikings and MLS side Orlando City, are in talks with an American group that includes Dan DeVos, owner of the Magic.

Mallorca are the only U.S-owned club in the top flight of Spanish football. John W. Henry is the American owner of both Manchester United andLiverpool. There are mixed ownership of Crystal Palace, Crystal Palace, and Leeds United.

Espanyol is 12th in LaLiga with 32 points and eight points from the bottom of the table.

Argentina look to lure Utd youngster from Spain

According to sources, Argentina hope a senior call-up will convince Alejandro Garnacho to switch his international loyalties from Spain to Argentina.

Garnacho was one of the surprises in Lionel Scaloni's squad for the World Cup qualifier against Venezuela and Ecuador at the end of March. The forward, who scored as United booked their place in the FA Youth Cup final this week, has not featured for the first team at Old United, but could find himself rubbing shoulders with Lionel Messi and co. later this month.

Garnacho has represented Spain at youth level and has never visited Argentina, where his mother hails from. According to sources, Argentina are pushing harder than Spain for him to commit to the Albiceste in the long term.
