  • Some patients going in for Fox eye procedures say they are left with pain, scars, and asymmetrical results.

  • thread lift procedures use barbed sutures to pull the skin towards the corner of the eye.

  • The results last about six months. The cost in the US is $2,050.

Plastic surgery patients are going under the knife to achieve things like the pulled back, feline-shaped Fox eyes, and some are being left with temporarily asymmetrical faces.

A thread lift procedure gave a TikTok user a messed up eyebrow, left her swollen for weeks, and popped a blood vessel.

A TikTok user named Chloe Dayan shared her story of being left with no results after getting a PDO thread lift.

Dayan said on TikTok that it was the most painful thing he had done in his entire life.

Plastic surgeons told the Daily Mail that some patients are left with pain, scars, and asymmetrical results after having Fox eye procedures.

The rise of celebrities with feline features, such as Hadid, has led to an increase in the popularity of the thread lift. The thread lift can be done by a non-board-certified plastic surgeon.

The care you get is often dictated by the door you walk into, according to a plastic surgeon.

How does a "fox eye" lift work?

The Fox eye procedure is not a face lift, which involves cutting into the side of the face, the jowl, and the neck and pulling excess skin towards the hairline, according to Matarasso.

The Fox eye procedure uses barbed, dissoluble sutures to pull the skin up and out. The barbs catch on the underside of the skin after a plastic surgeon inserts the thread. The barbs will keep the skin in place as the doctor pulls the threads towards the corner of the eye.

The Fox eye procedure is more similar to an eyelid operation than a face lift.

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a semi-permanent option in which a surgeon cuts into the skin and removes excess fat in the upper and lower lids to decrease the appearance of sagging and puffiness. Patients getting blepharoplasty don't want to change the shape of their eyes, but rather remove the appearance of aging, according to Matarasso.

The thread lift involves changing the shape of a patient's eye and brow for about six months before the threads are gone.

The average cost for a thread lift in the US is $2,050, according to Healthline.

What do prospective patients need to know before getting a "fox eye" thread lift?

A downside to the thread lift is that barbs don't catch to the skin and pull it. The barbs are meant to catch the underside of the skin, and the technique to do so is scalpel dependent.

There is a risk that a thread lift could damage the temporal branch of the facial nerve, which helps with raising the forehead and closing the eye.

Depending on where the sutures are placed and their thickness, some thread could be visible on a patient's face until it dissolving, or patients could feel them on their face. A surgeon can sometimes manipulate visible threads into a better position after the fact.

The people I see are failures, so my perspective may be skewed.

The appearance of patients who did not like the results of the Fox eye lift will fade because of the dissolving of sutures.

Even though Fox eye procedures aren't surgical and can be performed in medical spas, patients should see a board-certified plastic surgeon or facial plastic surgeon who is familiar with brow lift procedures to get the best assessment on which one would provide the natural result.
