South Africa beat Pakistan by six runs in the final of the Women's Cricket World Cup.

Pakistan looked defeated when needing 52 from six overs with four remaining.

Nida Dar and Diana Baig kept them in it, but in the 49th over Dar was run out for 55.

Pakistan were all out after 10 required off the last.

The final of the tournament in New Zealand will be one of the best because it will see West Indies and England play each other.

South Africa has two victories from two matches and will play England on Monday.

Pakistan, the lowest-ranked side in the tournament, is still very happy with their performance, even though they lost to India.

They built their chase on patience. Omaima Sohail took 104 balls over 65, sharing stands of 69 with Nahida Khan and 49 with Dar.

Omaima and Dar were looking to accelerate when Dar was caught in the deep.

Still, Dar started chipping away with Sidra and Baig. Baig hit back-to-back boundaries, only for Dar to be run out at the non-striker's end by Tryon's throw.

Baig was on strike for the final over, but Ismail held her nerve, running towards mid-century to hold a superb catch off her own bowling and effectively end the contest.

After being reduced to 21-2, the Proteas needed a stand of 89 between Luus and Wolvaardt to stay in the game.

It was costly for Pakistan when Dar dropped Wolvaardt on four and Luus overturned being given out on 12 and 23.

South Africa lost 3 for 10 runs, with the exception of Tryon and Trisha Chetty, who made 31 and 31, respectively, to get them to a total that was just enough.
