Texas Sen. Ted Cruz joined truck drivers in a protest against vaccine mandates.
The Washington Post reported that Cruz boarded the lead truck in the convoy after visiting the racetrack where hundreds of truck drivers have been gathering since Friday night.
The convoy had been circling the Beltway for four days in an attempt to disrupt traffic. The protest was inspired by the Freedom Convoy in Canada, and its participants demanded the lifting of all COVID-19 mandates.
I'm proud to stand with you. Cruz told the crowd that he was proud to stand with them as they fight for freedom.
Cruz posted a video of himself riding shotgun in a truck, smiling, waving, and flashing thumbs-up signs.

Brian Brase, one of the convoy's organizers, cheered Cruz on Thursday.
He told the crowd at the racetrack that there was no ignoring a senator riding in the lead truck.
Cruz said that the policies were cruel and immoral and that it was time to end them all.
I'm proud to listen to these guys, to hear their passion, to hear why they're here, and I'm proud to stand with them.
Cruz had a meeting with the truck drivers on Wednesday.
He claimed that he is often approached by people thanking him for his work in protesting against vaccine mandates.
I fly back and forth to Houston every week. Cruz said that the captain or flight attendant will hug him and say "Thank you for fighting for us" every time he flies to Mexico.
The leaders of the Convoy say they will continue circling the Beltway until all COVID-19 restrictions are removed.
Brase told ABC News that they were going to keep looping the Beltway. We are not leaving. We are going to keep doing what we are doing until we get more meetings like we just had.
Los Angeles County is one of the areas that have lifted COVID-19 restrictions. Washington DC has relaxed its COVID-19 restrictions, dropped vaccine requirements and lifted its mandate on indoor masking.
