As the world of baseball gets back to normal, more clarity is starting to surface surrounding teams' free agency plans.
The New York Mets aren't expected to pursue outfielders Michael Conforto or Kris Bryant because they don't want to add a big-name bat, according to Andy Martino of SNY.
According to sources with direct knowledge of theMets' thinking, a reunion with Michael Conforto is not on the radar.
Conforto has been with the Mets for seven years. He had a subpar season in 2021, batting just.232 with 14 home runs and 55RBI in 125 games. His batting average was his lowest in two years. He missed over a month due to a strained hamstring.
The Mets tried to acquire Bryant at last year's trade deadline, but were unsuccessful. Bryant was traded from the Chicago Cubs to the San Francisco Giants, while the Mets landed his then-team-mate.
Bryant was an All-Star for the fourth time. The NL's Most Valuable Player slashed.265/.353/.481 with 25 home runs and 73 runs scored. The 30-year-old will be entering his eighth MLB season in 2022, and he proved he can still be a major contributor.
Even though the Mets will be looking to add pitchers, he mentioned that they could be interested in adding a depth bat.
What if a star player wants a one-year deal? Kyle Schwarber could become available cheaper than expected. The Mets would be in on that.
