  • He said that the Ukrainian government is corrupt and evil.

  • Cawthorn condemned Putin's actions and said that propaganda is being used to entice America into another war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his government were called "incredibly corrupt" and "incredibly evil" by Rep. Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina.

The lawmaker made the comments in North Carolina. The Wall Street Journal opinion column reported them on Wednesday. WRAL published a video of Cawthorn on Thursday.

Cawthorn said that Zelenskyy is a thug and that the Ukrainian government is corrupt.

Cawthorn's comments are at odds with his party members who have expressed support for Zelenskyy. Senate Minority LeaderMitch McConnell last week called Putin a "ruthless thug" and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy called him an "evil" and a "dictator" during a press conference on Wednesday.

Cawthorn supports the efforts of the Ukrainian President to defend his country against Russian aggression, but does not want America drawn into another conflict through emotional manipulation, according to a spokesman for the lawmaker.

The congressman was upset about how Zelensky and other foreign leaders had used false propaganda to get America into a conflict.

Madison said that propaganda is being used to entice America into another war, along with a link to a Substack article about propaganda and misinformation in the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The actions of Putin and Russia are disgusting. Madison wrote that Zelensky should not push misinformation on America. We are not drawn into conflict because of foreign leaders pushing misinformation.

According to the New York Times, some of the official accounts in Ukraine have posted questionable and unconfirmed information, but they have mostly been focused on the war. The claims pale in comparison to the misinformation being spread by Russia.

The United States has provided weapons to the Ukrainians, but no American forces are involved in the conflict. There are no plans to deploy US troops to the war according to President Joe Biden.
