Russia's embassy in the United Kingdom was taken down by the social media giant for denying violent events during the ongoing Russian attack on Ukraine.

Russia's embassy claimed that a pregnant woman seen in a photo of casualties at a children's hospital in Mariupol that was destroyed by a Russian airstrike was actually a Ukrainian.

The embassy claimed that there were two photos of the same woman. The claim remained online after two of the others were taken down.

The link to the violation of the rules later read.

At least one child and two adults were killed at the hospital, and 17 other people were injured. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote that children are under the rubble of the hospital.

In an email to CNBC, a person from the company said that they took enforcement action against the Tweets that were in violation of the rules.

CNBC requested comment from the embassy in Washington and from a spokesman at the embassy.

The Mariupol hospital was attacked because it was being used as a headquarters by a Ukraine paramilitary group, which was firing on the Russian military while using human shields.

The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights said that Russia's invasion of Ukraine has killed at least 548 people, of whom 41 were children.

Since the attack began two weeks ago, an additional 957 civilians have been injured, the office said, while noting that the casualty total is believed to be higher.

The office said that most of the civilian casualties were caused by the use of explosives with a wide impact area.
