Few military experts seem to think the war is going very well for Russia, as Russian forces continue to make inroads in southern Ukraine. The invading army has suffered a lot of casualties, according to a U.S. official. The losses are comparable to World War II battles. More than the number of Americans killed during the Iraq War is what it is.

The U.S. estimates are about half the number of Russian deaths claimed by Moscow. The U.S. intelligence estimate puts the number of dead troops in Ukraine at between 2,000 and 4,000.

The UK's Ministry of Defense said early Thursday that Ukrainian forces continue to destroy a Russian military convoy north of Kyiv and that the air defenses have been effective. Russian President Vladimir Putin will have to rely on other sources to replace his losses as Russian casualties mount, including among conscripted troops.

Putin planned his disastrous Ukraine war in high secrecy in order to avoid leaks, and his risk-reward analysis was skewed by a lack of contingency planning from his tiny circle of generals. The result is a tragedy for Ukraine and a catastrophe for Russia.

Putin believed people would greet Russians with flowers. Russian soldiers going into Ukraine did not have food or weapons. They had a parade uniform for the Russian victory parade. There is no way we will give up.
