Bruce Weber resigned from his position as Kansas State men's basketball coach on Thursday.
The season ended with a loss to West Virginia in the Big 12 tournament. Kansas State lost their last six games.
Weber compared his school to others that were implicated in the FBI's investigation into college basketball recruiting, including Big 12 rivals Kansas and Oklahoma State.
Weber said that they did it with their guys graduating. The NCAA ethics committee has me on it. I was told that the people in the FBI would be taken care of. I told someone that I was going to grow my hair until something happened.
That is the sad part of our business. I was told by Lon Kruger that I should think about the guys in the FBI. They are all in the tournament. I'm proud of what I've done.
Kansas State said they would honor the terms of Weber's contract.
The athletic director said that Weber has provided "selfless leadership to our basketball program and university for the last decade." His development of young men on and off the court, while representing K-State in a first-class manner with the highest level of integrity is unparalleled in today's game and something all K-Staters should take great pride in.
During his time at Kansas State, Weber led the team to five NCAA tournaments, including an appearance in the Elite Eight. Kansas State won a share of the Big 12 regular-season title in both of the last two years. Weber was named Big 12 Coach of the Year.
He had a winning record in the Big 12 in 10 seasons at Kansas State.
The Fighting Illini won the national championship in 2005 under Weber, who was the head coach. He was the head coach at Southern Illinois for five years. He was the only Division I coach to lead all three programs to the Sweet 16.
