According to a Taiwanese publication, Apple will launch a series of Macs with M2 chips later this year. Performance and power efficiency improvements should be allowed by this advancement.
The report claims that the new Mac series will be powered by the M2 chip that will be built by TSMC.
Mark Gurman on Tuesday said that Apple has M2 versions of the MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini. Gurman said in his newsletter last weekend that Apple will launch at least some of those Macs around May to June of this year, and that the second half of the century will see the release of those Macs.
FYI: Still expecting an iMac Pro, for those wondering. M2 versions of the Mac mini, MacBook Pro 13-inch and 24-inch iMac are also in development. — Mark Gurman (@markgurman) March 8, 2022
The standard M1 chip has an 8-core processor, along with a 7-core or 8-core graphics card, depending on the configuration. Gurman said that the first M2 chip will have an 8-core processor, but with faster 9-core or 10-core options.
The analyst said on Tuesday that a version of the MacBook Air in 2022 will still use the M1 chip, although he didn't say if it was a modified version or not. The new MacBook Air will feature a redesign with more color options, and mass production of the notebook will begin in the second or third quarter of this year.
The Mac mini and the Mac Pro tower are the only Intel-based Macs left in the lineup. During its Peek Performance event this week, Apple teased that it was working on a version of the Mac Pro.
