Lakers' LeBron James Explains Passing on Potential Game-Winning Layup vs. Rockets

The Los Angeles Lakers' latest low point came Wednesday night in a 139-130 overtime loss to the Houston Rockets.

As time expired in regulation, James had a chance to win the game on a drive to the basket, but instead passed the ball to Anthony.

Anthony's jumper from 22 feet hit the back side of the rim to keep the score tied at 120.

I had an angle on the drive. David Nwaba came over. James told reporters after the game that he was a bit off-balance when he passed on the layup. I could have forced a reverse layup, but I wasn't in a position to feel good about it. I feel like my look was worse than that of Melo. It is literally that simple.

It was not an easy look for James. He was able to get around Eric Gordon, but David Nwaba was in a perfect position to cut off a lane to the basket.

James' body was underneath the backboard when he passed to Anthony. Anthony was rushed because he was also forced to take an extra step before getting into his shooting motion.

The Lakers ran out of steam in overtime. After losing 12 in a row, the Rockets won for the second time in three games by scoring the first 13 points of the extra period.

James finished with a triple-double of 23 points, 14 rebound and 12 assists with four blocks, but he also committed five turnovers and shot just 9-of-26 from the field.

A downward trend for the Lakers has been going on for nearly two months.

The Lakers have lost 13 of their last 17 games since a January win over the Brooklyn Nets moved them back to.500.

Los Angeles is a season-high nine games under.500 and is 1.5 games behind the 10th seed in the Western Conference.
