The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army described the operation as delicate, according to the defense ministry.

In the face of seemingly indiscriminate shelling from Russian forces that hit residential buildings, schools, and hospitals, Ukrainian forces may want to emphasize the distinction.

Some of the fiercest fighting around the capital has been in the vicinity of Borodyanka, which is 45 miles from the center of Kyiv.

The town was bombarded by the Russians. On March 3, drone footage emerged of the town's destruction, showing the still-smoking shells of apartment buildings.

The Kyiv Independent reported that one of the places hit was a veterans rehabilitation center.
