Russian Apple device users can't make purchases in the App Store because of a change in the country's laws, according to iPhones.ru.

It is no longer possible for users to add funds to their accounts using regional bank cards from Russian banks.

Normally, Apple users would be able to buy gift cards to top up their Apple ID account. Users are having problems with this mode of funding as well.

It is not clear if the issue is a result of action by Apple, Russian banks or the Russian government. If confirmed, users in Russia will no longer be able to make purchases in the App Store or the iTunes Store.

The development follows the decision by the Play Store to stop billing in Russia, as well as the ban on Apple Search Ads in the Russian store.

Long lines at commuter rail systems that use Apple Pay to pay fares have been reported because major banks in Russia are not able to use the service. After the U.S. implemented sanctions against Russia, Apple moved independently.
