Most at-risk senators want to transform the artist formerly known as "Build Back Better" into an inflation-buster just in time for the elections.

It could jump-start President Joe Biden's stalled domestic agenda by helping Democrats cut a deal with Sen. Joe Manchin and sell the legislation as a cost-cutting package. It would give the vulnerable incumbents a powerful message to keep their seats and keep the majority for two more years.

John Hickenlooper, who defeated an incumbent GOP senator in 2020, said that it would have an effect on helping people in their reelections.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer offered a plan to revive the Democrats' stalled domestic agenda, including hearings on a plan to lower prescription drug costs that would be a wallet-friendly centerpiece of the pitch by vulnerable Democrats. The cost-cutting agenda is expected to be a major focus in House and Senate Democratic retreats this week, a sign that the party is hearing out its members who want to see a rebrand of their signature bill.

After months of battling with progressives, the Democrats attempt at a do-over after they struggled to sell a $1.7 trillion spending bill that Manchin rejected in December. The Democrats have been trying to convince voters that they have effective governance, but they need to get another signature piece of legislation.

Michael Bennet, who faces a tough reelection campaign this fall, said that his people barely know what's been in previous proposals because of the lack of communication.

It's important for us to come to an agreement quickly. There is a lot of potential here to pass something that is very popular with the American people. He said to start with a blank sheet of paper. He put pencil marks on a blank sheet of paper.

Manchin wants to reduce the deficit, lower prescription drug costs, and reform the tax code. Most Democrats take it as a sign that he is open for business, even though he has repeatedly said there are no formal talks going on with Biden or his colleagues.

That is good news for a group of Democrats who are trying to assemble a cost-cutting agenda but are struggling to break through. Democrats have some new hope, as the possibility of a party-line spending deal with Manchin through the budget reconciliation process offers them some new hope.

It is worth continuing to figure out how we work together to really focus on how we lower these costs for families and individuals.

Democrats have talked about cutting the cost of prescription drugs for years, yet they are worried that their majority will go home empty handed. The senator from New Hampshire said her goal is to hold Big pharma accountable and bring down prescription drug costs.

If Democrats stick together, they can pass tax reform, climate and prescription drug legislation. Half of the revenues from the bill will go toward deficit reduction and fighting inflation, which Manchin believes is very popular with voters.

It could be a challenge for some progressives, who envisioned a bigger package spending trillions of dollars. The legislation to lower the cost of prescription drug prices has the support of the Senate, but Sen.Bernie sanders wants a floor vote on it.

The expired child tax credits sent millions of families hundreds of dollars a month. Manchin said that when it comes to getting his vote, you don't fight inflation by spending more.

Senate Republicans are skeptical of Democrats efforts to resuscitate their domestic agenda. The campaign chair of the Republican Party, Sen. Rick Scott, panned the Democrats' pursuit of tax increases. The push makes no sense, said Sen. John Cornyn.

He said that the horse is out of the barn.

Manchin's vision is good for most Democrats. Congressional primaries are already taking place and floor time is being gamed out of the rest of the year. Democrats have a chance to revive a party-line spending bill that will solve some of their policy problems.

We need to get more things done for the people of Georgia. I would be interested in pursuing whatever path lowers costs for people, holds corporations accountable that are artificially raising prices. I just want to get something done.

Several Senate Democrats are reluctant to discuss hypotheticals about a potential deal with Manchin, after seeing months of repetitive negotiations and no finished product. More day-to-day discussions would lead to negative headlines saying we are failing and we are talking to Manchin.

Mark Kelly, who faces a competitive reelection, said he was focused on rising costs and the upcoming government funding package. He spoke cautiously about restarting talks on the Democrats' social spending plan.

Kelly said that seniors in Arizona have to pay for prescription drugs that are unfair.

The budget bill was blocked by Manchin due to his concerns about the deficit and inflation.
