Returnal is getting co-op and a survival mode in a free ‘Ascension’ update

Returnal is getting a new survival mode called The Tower of Sisyphus in its upcoming 3.0 update.

The update is the first significant addition of new content. The previous 2.0 update focused on the basics instead of adding major quality of life additions like the ability to suspend a run without losing your progress and a photo mode.

You will need internet and a PS Plus subscription to play co-op in Atropos, because there is no split-screen option. In the new Tower of Sisyphus area, players won't be able to play with each other.

The Tower of Sisyphus will offer players a series of 20 floors that are increasingly difficult to navigate, with some new mysteries to uncover along the way.
