Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich apologized to Jim Irsay after last year's disappointing season, according to a report.

Reich apologized to Irsay after lobbying to get the Pro Bowler with the idea that he could solve the Colts' quarterback dilemma.

The Colts are trading Wentz to the Washington Commanders, according to a report by Adam Schefter.

One year after acquiring Wentz from the Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis was cutting bait.

He tried to meet with Irsay to clear the air about his future with the team. Irsay didn't meet with the quarterback because he was out of town. The two had a conversation.

Two years after Reich and Wentz left Philadelphia, Reich was hired as the Eagles offensive coach. He said last May that you should stick your neck out for players as a head coach, a GM or a scout, in reference to the trade bringing to Indianapolis.

Reich told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine that he stuck his neck out for the veteran quarterback last year, but in light of recent events, one wonders if he made that comment with a twinge of regret.

Even though his trade from the Eagles was damning in its own right, the extent to which the Colts are washing their hands of him is somewhat surprising.

Indianapolis didn't trust him to be the franchise quarterback moving forward.

The Colts fell out of the playoffs in the final two weeks of the regular season, so it looks like there was no return for Wentz. He threw for 333 yards, two touchdown and one interception, but lost a ball.

The Philadelphia Inquirer painted an unflattering portrayal of Wentz during his time in Philadelphia.

The 29-year-old voiced his displeasure with the Eagles success to a group of other injured players, while he was out with a tornACL.

Another NFL team kicked Wentz to the curb.

None of this should be surprising. Wentz grated on teammates in Philly. Has been reticent to hard coaching his entire career, even though it's what brings out the best in him ... Besides 14 weeks in '17 he's never quite delivered on being a No. 2 overall pick.

The next team to bet on him is the Commanders. It might not work out in the end if history is any indication.
