There will be bugs in computers as long as there are computers. You know, metaphorically. Microsoft has just killed off another bunch of them. If you haven't installed this update yet, you're going to want to do so immediately.
According to Bleeping Computer, Microsoft released an update on Tuesday. There are 71 known vulnerabilities in the update, ranging from issues like elevation of privilege, denial of service, and spoofing. There were 21 vulnerabilities fixed for Microsoft Edge.
Every patch should be installed to protect yourself against any issues Microsoft has identified. There are three flaws that are more dangerous than the others.
Zero-day vulnerabilities are flaws that have been publicly identified as threats. Bad actors could have found a way to exploit these vulnerabilities because they were known to everyone paying attention. Microsoft acknowledged there have been proof-of-concept exploits for two of the vulnerabilities.
According to Bleeping Computer, Microsoft believes that the other two vulnerabilities are also likely to be exploited.
The security patches are a double-edge sword that is heavy on the side of good. On the other hand, Microsoft is patching security issues that could be used against you. The bad actors could come up with ways to harm users who haven't updated yet because all the bugs are out in the open.
It's important that you update your PC as soon as possible.
Windows might let you know that an update is available, and will install it automatically. You will need to check for an update manually if not.
To do so, you must head to Start or Settings. Windows might take a moment to check for any updates that are available. You will see the patch here if it is available. You can simply follow the instructions on the screen to download and install the update.
