Jordan Hicks was released by the Arizona Cardinals.

The move to give Zaven Collins more playing time is being made by the Cards because of the high level of play of inside linebackers like Hicks.

Collins was selected 16th overall by the Cards and they told him he would be the starter. When he was told he had lost his job, he was angry. He requested a trade, which never materialized, and the seven-year veteran ended up starting all 17 games.

By getting released now, he will be able to sign with another team before free agency begins next week. The move will save $6.5 million on their salary cap, but also leave $3 million in dead money on their books.

In three seasons with Arizona, he posted more than 100 tackles in all but one season, including a career-best 150 in his first year.

He was selected in the third round of the 2015 draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. During his time with the Eagles, he missed 21 regular-season games due to a variety of injuries, but did not miss a game in three seasons with the Cards.

In his career, he has 638 tackles, 10 sacks, 4 forced turnovers and 11 intercepts.
