Rep. Madison Cawthorn, R-N.C., leaves a House Republican Conference strategy session on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, April 20, 2021

The second time in the past five years, Madison Cawthorn has been charged with driving on a revoked license, a crime that can result in up to 20 days in jail.

According to court records, the Henderson County Republican was pulled over by the highway patrol in Cleveland County, about an hour-and-a-half southeast of Asheville.

There are two pending citations for speeding, one in Buncombe County and the other in Polk County.

Sergeant Marcus Bethea said March 9 he could confirm that the three citation numbers are pending in Buncombe, Polk and Cleveland counties.

A district judge blocked Cawthorn's candidacy challenge.

Bethea gave the dates of the alleged offenses, but said he would need time to talk to the charging officers about the incidents.

The (Asheville, North Carolina) Citizen Times reached out to Cawthorn.

The court date is in May. The Polk County citation will be heard on April 18 and the Buncombe citation will be heard on May 3.

After his license was taken away, Cawthorn was charged with driving. A charge of driving while license revoked was dismissed in Buncombe before he was sworn in as a U.S. House member.
