A plane carrying former President Donald Trump made an emergency landing last weekend when one of its engines failed after he spoke to GOP donors in New Orleans, a source told CNBC.
A person said that Trump's plane turned around shortly after taking off and returned to New Orleans on Saturday night.
Trump was on his way back to his home in Florida after speaking at a donor retreat. Trump said in his speech that he was considering a run for the White House in 2024.
The emergency landing was reported by Politico.
The source who spoke with CNBC said they could confirm the events that were described in the Washington Post account.
The audio of the communications between the pilot and the air traffic control tower revealed that the landing was an emergency.
According to The Post, Trump was in a plane owned by a GOP donor that failed over the Gulf of Mexico.
The newspaper reported that he was traveling with people from the Secret Service.
The plane took off from New Orleans Lakefront Airport and made an emergency landing in New Orleans, according to The Post.
The air traffic controller told the pilot at around 10:37 p.m. on the audio recording heard by CNBC. There will be vehicles following you down the runway.
The pilot said he appreciated it.
The RNC obtained another plane for Trump from a donor, and he returned home by early Sunday morning, according to both news sites.
A spokeswoman for Trump didn't respond to CNBC's request for comment.
An RNC spokesman wouldn't comment.
