Bradley Beal has said all of the right things about his future with the Washington Wizards, but he may have his sights set on an Eastern Conference rival.
According to Andrew Bogut, the rumor is that Bradley is trying to get to Philadelphia to team up with James Harden.
The Athletic's Sam Amick reported in January that Philadelphia president of basketball operations Daryl Morey is still waiting for either Damian Lillard or Bradley Beal to become available.
While Philadelphia traded Simmons to the Brooklyn Nets to get Harden, Morey could still take another swing at Beal.
The Wizards star can opt out of his contract and become a free agent this summer, but the 76ers might not sign him. They have committed over $150 million for 2022-23, which includes Harden's option.
Harden could opt out and take a big discount, but that seems unlikely when he will turn 33 in August and be able to cash out with a max extension.
Morey could execute a sign-and-trade for Beal if Philly doesn't have the cap space.
The Sixers would likely have to include one or both of the two players in a trade for Tobias Harris, who is due to earn $38.6 million next year.
The Wizards wouldn't have a lot of leverage in negotiations because they wouldn't have to give up much, but letting him walk would be a better outcome than taking on Harris' contract and getting little else.
Morey has shown that he is a good executive. When the season began, he came away with a return few thought possible after playing the waiting game with Simmons. He created a way for the Houston Rockets to get Chris Paul.
Don't be surprised if Morey pulls out all the stops to bring Beal to Philadelphia if he makes it clear he wants to leave Washington.
