The Prime Minister of Russia said on Wednesday that the government will retaliate against countries that ban Russian ships from entering their ports.
During a governmental meeting, the prime minister revealed several steps Russia is taking to protect its domestic economy against international sanctions, and Mishustin threatened to retaliate against the nations barring Russian ships.
The government is closely monitoring food prices. Russian President Putin signed an order banning the export of some goods.
According to the publication, Mishustin said that turbulence linked to sanctions will end sooner or later.
The prime minister didn't say how the government would retaliate. In the past, Putin has said that the West's support for Ukraine in the form of sanctions is akin to declaring war.
According to The Wall Street Journal, an estimated 60,000 Russian and Ukrainian sailors are stuck at ports. Russian ships are no longer allowed into several Western ports, leaving the crew in limbo. Many people have been unable to travel due to sanctions.
Russian sailors are a factor that could cause further labor shortages at sea and supply chain delays if they are forced home.
Russian ships were banned from entering the UK last week. The EU and US are considering a similar ban. Biden announced a ban on Russian oil imports.
Similar measures have been taken by shipping companies. Last week, the world's three largest shipping companies announced they would no longer call on Russian ports. Multiple reports of cargo ships off the coast of Ukraine being used as "human shields" for Russia's attack on Ukraine led to the decision.
If sanctions on Russian ships continue, the country could be cut off from trade with many of the world's other countries.
