Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told Russian soldiers that they should not believe their commanding officers.

Do not believe your commanders when they tell you that you still have a chance, he said. Except for death.

His address continued, "You take our lives and give yours, and we know that your commanders already understand everything."

The New York Times report that said Russian soldiers on the front lines in Ukraine were not told they would be going into war came just days after Zelenskyy warned.

Russian soldiers were lied to and kept in the dark about battle plans according to accounts collected by The Times.

The Times reported that a captured Russian lieutenant found out about the Ukrainian invasion just hours before the battle. The soldiers who were ranked lower only found out when they were already on the move.

The Ukrainian ambassador to the United Nations gave a speech about a text exchange between a Russian soldier and his mother.

The Russian soldier told his mother that he was not on a training mission. He was fighting in a real war.

Sergiy Kyslytsya, Ukraine's ambassador, said that the soldier's text to his mother read, "We are bombing all of the cities together, even targeting civilians."

Zelenskyy warned Russian troops last week.

Zelensky said in a video statement that you should throw away your equipment and leave. Do not believe propagandists. Just leave and save your life.
